Five Questions to Ask Before Joining Specialty Merchandise Corporation

In many cases Specialty Merchandise Corporation (SMC) may seem like a great opportunity, but far too many people become overly excited and sign up without thinking if the company is right for them.  Someone claim SMC scam. It is important not only to find out as much as you can about SMC and similar types of businesses before signing a contract with them, but also to consider if the opportunity is suitable for you.

Make no mistake; there is money to be made by joining Specialty Merchandise Corporation.  At the same time, it is also a risk if you do not apply yourself and treat a home-based business just like any other business.  Therefore, if you are tempted to join Specialty Merchandise Corporation, ask yourself the following five questions:

1. Can I Sell?

The principle of selling is extremely simple, but the reality of actually doing it is far more difficult. Not everyone is suited to selling and some people possess the skill more naturally than others. Although some people take up the art of sales pretty quickly, it takes awhile for the majority of people to get good at it.  If you are just joining SMC just to make a bit of side income in your spare time, then that doesn’t matter too much. But if you are planning to make SMC your major source of income then you need to be certain you can sell, and sell well.

If you are not sure if you are going to good at selling, practice with a good friend to get honest feedback.  Role-play and try selling everything. While every great salesperson has their own methods of selling, a great sales person also needs to be a good communicator.  Communication means both listening, talking and being completely confident in yourself.  If you are neither of these, then you might need to ask yourself whether joining SMC is really the right thing to do.

2. Can I Sell SMC’s Products?

There are some people who can genuinely sell anything from a car to a bunch of bananas and wouldn’t necessarily be interested in buying the items themselves. These types of people are rare as most people can only really sell products or services that we know a lot about and/or have a genuine interest in.

Flip through a Specialty Merchandise catalog or take a look at their products on their website.  Ask yourself: Can I see myself selling these products?  What do you really think of them?  The reality of it is that you will struggle to convince people that SMC products offer value for money and would enhance their lives if you don’t believe in them yourself.  Of course, you are never going to love every product you sell, but if you cannot convincingly describe the benefits and the qualities of the products that you are interested in, then SMC probably isn’t really for you.

3. Do I Know Where I Would Sell the Products?

While Specialty Merchandise Corporation does offer plenty of ideas and advice about where to sell their products, you need to also think about where you plan to sell the products locally. One can attend certain events like flea markets just to sell for the weekend but the majority of people who have success with SMC and similar corporations manage to build opportunities for selling into their daily routines.

Do these opportunities present themselves in your life?  If you already have a full time job, could your colleagues be your customers?  If you have children, how about other parents you encounter?  Friends? Consider your hobbies and use your social activities as opportunities to sell.  While you may not want to sell every time you leave your house, the reality is that if you want to be an SMC success story, your way of thinking may have to change.

4. How Much Time do I Have?

This is arguably the most important question.  SMC and other similar corporations offer a great opportunity to earn money, particularly if you are naturally good at interacting with people.  Just as you would in any self-employed business, you have to put the effort in as there isn’t a guaranteed stream of income.  Selling, sadly, does not happen by itself.

You need to be sure you devote enough time to selling if you are to have any chance of being successful.  How much time do you need?  It varies with every person and the type of marketing methods that they use, but most successful SMC retailers would say a bare minimum of 10-12 hours a week is required. This doesn’t mean you can’t make money by committing two to five hours a week, but to make serious money requires a serious time commitment.

5. Do I Have the Determination?

Many people dream about becoming their own boss and the freedom that brings, they don’t always appreciate the determination and dedication required to make it work. You have to be motivated to get things done yourself and always pushing the envelope. Only you would know if you have the level of determination to be a one-man band.  Without work colleagues to support you when the going gets tough, will you have the resilience to put in the time without getting fed up?   Or would you give up and allow yourself to fail.

Hopefully you will now have a better idea of whether joining Specialty Merchandise Corporation is right for you.  By at least considering these questions, you are way ahead of the people who sign up to SMC seeing the dollar signs without realizing the required effort needed to make it work.  If you now decide to join Specialty Merchandise Corporation, best wishes. You do have a genuine chance of succeeding by honestly evaluating your strengths and weaknesses.
